North Korea Blasts Hitler Smear

Yesterday a major South Korean newspaper picked up on a report from the North Korean defector’s website New Focus International, which claimed that the DPRK’s new leader Kim Jong Un had handed out dozens of copies of Adolf Hitler’s book Mein Kampf to top North Korean officials on his birthday last January, urging them to study the book as a manual in leadership.

However, Pyongyang has blasted the report as a “smear campaign”, denouncing the publishers as “human scum” and threatened to kill them.

The first drafts of Mein Kampf were written by Germany’s former Chancellor Adolf Hitler whilst incarcerated in Landsberg prison in 1924. The book was then later revised by Hitler who having won Germany’s 1933 elections, combined the offices of German President and German Chancellor into the single office of Führer which he assumed upon Paul Von Hindenburg’s death in 1934.

‘Mein Kampf’ which translates as ‘My Struggle’ or ‘My Fight’ in English, outlines Adolf Hitler’s early personal life and German Nationalist/Anti-Zionist views.

Citing an unnamed North Korean turncoat operating within Kim Jong Un’s close circle of inner officials, the report quoted the source as saying: “Kim Jong-un gave a lecture to high ranking officials, stressing that we must pursue the policy of ‘Byungjin’ [Korean for ‘being in a state of tandem or harmony’] in terms of nuclear and economic development. Mentioning that Hitler managed to rebuild Germany in a short time following its defeat in World War One, Kim Jong Un issued an order for the Third Reich to be studied in depth and asked that practical applications be drawn from it.”

The report added: “Rumours have been spreading among the Pyongyang elite that Kim Jong Un made a close study of Hitler while at school in Switzerland according to a second trusted North Korean source, – a DPRK business representative and a frequent traveller between Pyongyang and China.”

The DPRK’s interior ministry called ‘The Ministry of People’s Security’ has reacted angrily to the report, calling those responsible for its publication “a handful of human scum moving desperately to deter Korean progress.” – Adding that the Ministry would “physically remove the despicable human scum who are committing treason.”

Relations between the two Koreas which have technically been at war with each other since 1950 are currently strained, with the DPRK’s 12th nuclear test having been conducted last February despite intense international pressure threatening sanctions against the rogue state.

South Korean sources have estimated that more than 20,000 North Korean residents have fled North Korea since the 1950’s. However, North Korean sources claim that it has received defectors of its own, including at least five US soldiers who defected to the north during the Korean War in the 1950’s, at least one of whom is still alive and well, living in Pyongyang.

In June last year the DPRK claimed a propaganda victory after 66-year-old Pak Jong Suk who defected to the south in 2006, returned to her native North Korea, claiming that life in South Korea was “miserable” citing high unemployment and high crime rates.

Although due to the current political climate in most Western countries falsely translated copies of Mein Kampf are quite a regular occurrence, the most accurately translated editions so far have been the 1939 James Murphy Translation and the more recent Michael Ford Translation, which has since been released in audio and is available for free listening here on YouTube:
