A hospital in Ghana has been named as the World’s most dangerous hospital for plastic surgery patients. Ghana’s ‘Joy News’ investigated Obengfo Hospital at Weija in the countries capital of Accra, only to discover the hospital’s chief plastic surgeon Dr. Obeng Andoh of 10 years is not even licensed to perform plastic surgery, despite repeatedly boasting that he was the only doctor in Ghana with the expertise to perform liposuction.

Attention was drawn to the hospital after some of the staff at the hospital’s Teaching Hospital Plastic Surgery Department reported patients returning to the hospital with life-threatening complications after having undergone Dr. Obeng Andoh’s plastic surgeon’s knife.
Dr. Obeng Andoh told Joy News that he was had received a certificate at an American clinic in Florida for two weeks training and that his patients were very grateful for his services however, when approached Ghana’s Medical & Dental Council insisted that Obeng Andoh, although a registered general practitioner was not qualified for the type of procedures he claimed to specialise in.
The Council confirmed that there were only 8 fully qualified plastic surgeons in the country and Dr. Obeng Andoh was not one of them.
Dr. Albert Painstil, one of the surgeons at Korle-Bu (Ghana’s primary teaching hospital), said that upon treating some plastic surgery patients who attended Obengfo Hospital, all of them were angry with the results and wanted Andoh to be arrested. Speaking of her ordeal one patient claimed that she was left permanently and grossly disfigured after paying GH¢12,000 (£3,816 / US$5,967) for a weight loss operation.
Documents subsequently obtained by Joy News revealed that last November the Medical & Dental Council suspended Andoh following a disciplinary enquiry on June 13th 2012, after he was charged with erecting billboards all over the country advertising his own services, contrary to Section 3 of Ghana’s medical code.
However, Andoh has since successfully appealed the decision and is continuing to work as a plastic surgeon at Obengfo Hospital.
