76-year-old Silvio Berlusconi, Italy’s former Prime Minister and Italian media tycoon has been convicted in an Italian Court, of having underage sex with 17-year-old Moroccan prostitute Karima El Mahroug, known as ‘Ruby the Heart Stealer’ and abusing his powers of office.

The full sentence is 7 years and a life ban on holding public office however, the former Prime Minister is set to appeal.
Berlusconi denies all allegations against him but is still embroiled in other court cases. Last October Berlusconi was handed down a 4 year sentence for tax fraud.
The judgement could destabilise the current Italian coalition government led by Prime Minister Enrico Letta, which depends heavily on Berlusconi’s centre-right, ‘People of Freedom Party’ or ‘PDL’.
Berlusconi will not go to prison until the appeals process has been exhausted.
